Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA)

General Information:

The purpose of the organization which has been established since 1924 is to better regulate and develop interscholastic school athletic programs in the State of Colorado. 

Key People:

Rhonda Blanford-Green and her staff of eight administrators and nine support personnel handle the daily operations of the association. Jim Lucas is the current and 61st Board of Directors President.

 

General Hours / Days and Supervisor:  

The requirements are 200 hours in my mentorship program, which I will be set by me while keeping CHSAA Assistant Commissioner Ernie Derrera informed of my progress.  Originally, I was to report to CHSAA Associate Commissioner Tom Robinson but recently has changed and will now be CHSAA Assistant Commissioner Ernie Derrera, ederrera@chsaa.org, (303) 344-5050.

Main Duties:

My main role during this mentorship program is to assist the eight CHSAA Commissioners and the nine support personnel in their daily duties.  Moreover, I will be part of assisting in three State Tournaments which are during my mentorship program.  In addition, I will be assigned to assist and Athletic Director of a High School in the State of Colorado.

Unpaid

Program Goals:

I plan throughout the mentorship program to take the opportunity to network with established professionals in the athletic environment.  In addition, I look to apply my knowledge from the classroom to the workplace while getting a feel for the industry.  Finally, I look to foster relationships with coworkers and supervisors who can later be called on to provide references that build a solid resume.

 

Learning Outcomes:

I look to have a clearer understanding of the implementation of interscholastic athletic and activity programs as it pertains to high school sports while in the role of an athletic director.  In addition, I look take away how to provide leadership that facilitates and articulates a shared vision of high‐quality programs that support achievement for all student athletes, which fosters a positive learning environment as an Athletic Director.  Moreover, I want to take away how to access and analyze data to develop and adapt plans that enhances an athletic program, while being committed to continuous improvement.
